7 Myths About Digital Advertising You Shouldn't Believe

You've heard the myths about digital advertising before. Around a campfire, where a grizzled old man speaks to you about the wonders of digital advertising: Mystical powers that convert anyone, legendary endurance and staying power, seemingly boundless returns on investments. You may have shaken your head in disbelief at these fables, but after so many people have told you about "algorythms", "machine learning", and "deepmind", you may have bought into them without realizing it. And so we're here to set the record straight about digital advertising.

1- We've invented a money machine.gif

Digital Advertising is not magic. While we are very good at our jobs, and have some pretty satisfying success stories under our belt, digital advertising takes time and energy to get rolling. Developing an online presence for your company isn't just about building a website, it's about giving you a strong position on social media, SEO, and paid search.

2- Digital advertising always works for every situation.

Sometimes online advertising is just not a good fit. This happens sometimes when we're working on untested products and tenuous companies, where digital advertising is not the best solution. The rule of thumb here is so long as you have a viable business model and know your stuff, we can give you an online strategy to match.

3- We have a one-size-fits-all formula.

Ultimately, your project is different than our other partners, so prescribing you the same solution we used for another client doesn't work. Digital Advertising contains a wide variety of tools and platforms, which is why part of our expertise is determining which one will work best for your project and knock your target audience's socks off.

4- We know it all.

It may come as a suprise: we don't actually know it all. But while the search is still underway for the floating white formulas with all the answers, we will need your help and expertise to fill in the gaps. It also takes time to collect the results of our metrics and find out what works for your audience.

5- Landing a good ranking on Google is easy and fast.

SEO, or search engine optimization, is a great way to rise in the ranks on Google, but it's not going to instantly push you into first place on every search. Making your website look attractive and helpful to Google does help, they take into account hundreds of factors, and a lot of them are weighted by the size of your company and how often people click on your site.

6- Digital Advertising agency will eat away at your traditional advertising.

We're not big on undercutting and replacing our traditional advertising partners. We are pretty big fans of digital advertising, but that doesn't mean we don't like the work you do for your clients. What we do is supplement your work, not supplant it (see what I did there?).

7- We just post cool stuff on social media.giphy (2).gif

As cool as it would be to just post fun cat GIFs and have fun with social media marketing, most of what we do is not on social media. Effectively optimizing your website for search engines, running a Google AdWords campaign, and developing retargeting campaigns will probably only be seen by a few people, but are some of the most important parts of online advertising.
